Google versus Yahoo!
Would you like to find out what those-in-the-know have to say about Search Engine Optimization? The information in the article below comes straight from well-informed experts with special knowledge about Search Engine Optimization.
When it comes to internet search engines the top two are without a doubt Google and Yahoo!.
Although the two a fierce competitors they share more common bonds then some people might realize. Both were created by students at Stanford University. Yahoo! was created in January of 1994 by two Stanford graduate students Jerry Yang and David Filo. The pair originally called Yahoo! “Jerry’s guide to the World Wide Web” but later changed the name to Yahoo!, commemorating the word the Jonathan Swift defined in his classic novel Gulliver’s Travels. In the book Swift stated that the word was “rude, unsophisticated, uncouth.” Four years after Yang and Filo had created Yahoo! and introduced it to the world (at this time it was a internet mogul) two different Stanford University students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, created their own search engine, Google, as a research project, the date was September seventh 1998. Google started out as the search engine used on Stanford University’s website before it went public on August 19, 2004. When 2006 ended Google was the leading internet search engine, it enjoyed over 50.8% of the market.
By the time it was a year old Yahoo! had had over a million hits, the sheer number of people who had found and were using Yahoo! prompted it creators to incorporated their creation in May of 1995. Yahoo! went public on April 12 1996 were it earned a total of 2.6 million dollars.
Google’s progress was a little slower then Yahoo!s. Shortly after creating Google, Page and Brin registered it as the domain google.com on September 17, 1997 on Stanford University’s website. Approximately one year after registering Google on Stanford University’s website the pair decided to incorporate their research project. Finally, on August 19, 2004, Google had its very first public offering. Google is currently the favorite internet search engine.
After its meteoritic climb to glory Yahoo!’s creators and shareholders were confident that they were holding onto a gold mine. They didn’t predict the burst of the dot.com bubble in the early two thousands. Yahoo! survived the crisis but the value of Yahoo! stocks dropped to $8.11, an all time low.
Think about what you’ve read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about Search Engine Optimization? Or was there something completely new? What about the remaining paragraphs?
Yahoo! uses a combination of web crawler compiled and indexed results to rank the websites and webpage are registered on their search engine. In addition to rankings compiled by the web crawler, webmasters can, for a fee, purchase a submission to Yahoo!’s human compiled directory. The annual yearly fee is about three hundred dollars. The theory is that the listing human’s provide will influence web crawlers into giving the website a higher ranking.
Google credits its success and popularity to the program it uses to search and rank webpage’s, a program it calls PageRank. Because Google is worried about webmasters using abusive techniques to garner higher rankings for their search engines Google carefully keeps the hows and whys of PageRank a closely guarded secret. Google does confess that PageRank runs on a link analysis algorithm. PageRank was different from all the rest of the search engine optimization techniques because it graded each page based on the number of and quality of the links that pointed to it.
Yahoo! quickly grew fond of offering the webmasters that subscribed to its search engine the opportunity to purchase something called paid inclusion. In exchange for a fee, Yahoo! guaranteed that the webpage’s would be ranked. What Yahoo! didn’t guarantee was what type of ranking the webpage’s would receive; they refused to promise that the webpage’s would appear in the first two pages of a search.
Google uses a pay-per-click method to charge advertisers. Each time an advertisers link is clicked Google charges the account fifty cents.

SEO For Law Firms
You should be able to find several indispensable facts about Search Engine Optimization in the following paragraphs. If there’s at least one fact you didn’t know before, imagine the difference it might make.
Search engine optimization (SEO) can be a useful tool for a lot of businesses, especially those that aim to attract possible clients online. This is actually being utilized by a lot of businesses already, including law firms, since this can allow them to get ahead of their competition. By optimizing their site’s visibility online through the use of search engines, lawyers and law firms are able to beat other, more well-known law firms by making their name more visible and easier to find for possible clients online.
Keep in mind that people are now more educated in using the internet as their means of locating businesses and firms that offer legal services. Although more well-known law firms would appear more attractive to most, if they are not able to find those firms online, then there is a great possibility that they would be directed to another law firm, one that is easier to find online.
Here are a couple of steps that you must do in order to be able to get a competitive edge over other law firms, and finally get more prospective clients.
Create a website
The first thing that your law firm must do is to create a website. You will not be able to get traffic to check your business online if you don’t have any website to direct them to. Make sure that you try to find a website designer that will be able to capture your vision on what your site will look like. If you find it difficult to picture out yourself, you can always seek help from professionals to design the site for you specifically.
Keyword choice
Once you have successfully created your website to your specifications, you must now try to figure out what keywords or tags you will need to associate to your site. Remember that people will use certain keywords to try and find law firms on the web through the use of search engines.
Choosing the right keyword can help determine the success of your site’s optimization in search engines, which is why you must make sure that the keywords that you choose reflect directly on your site’s content. This will make it easier for your chosen keywords to get the right market or prospective clients that you aim to get.
Most of this information comes straight from the Search Engine Optimization pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.
Create relevant content
Creating the right content for your site is also one of the more important things that you should focus on, especially if you want to keep the people that are already on site. You need to make sure that you use the keywords that you have chosen on your site’s content. Having keywords or key phrases would be pretty useless if you haven’t created any content that relates to them, so make sure that you take the time to write down meaningful and relevant content.
Build links
You must also now try to improve the page ranking of your website on search engines. A site that is page ranked number one has a much better of getting more traffic directed to it than those ranked lower. If you want to make your law firm to become more visible online, then you must now focus on how you can increase your site’s page ranking, and you can do this through the use of effective link building.
Link building can help get your site indexed on search engines. All you need to do in order to get the right type of market directed to your site is to link your site to those that have the same content as your site. Remember that people who are looking for legal aid regarding a particular issue will be looking for sites that directly relates to their situation, so make sure that you link to relevant sites only to help boost up your site’s page ranking when users type in a particular key word in search engines.
Doing these steps is not a guarantee that your sales will go up with the increase in your possible clients list, but it can guarantee the improvement in how much traffic you can direct your way. Let this serve as your starting point, the rest is up to you.

Common Mistakes in SEO
Search engine optimization (SEO) can be a complicated process, especially if you are not very familiar, or well-versed, with the method. A lot of SEO beginners, and even some professionals, continue to commit the same mistakes when they do try to use SEO, thereby making it harder for them to get the results that they desire for their site’s page ranking.
Fortunately for you, by simply determining what mistakes they make and avoiding them, you can actually fair off better than those people who commit them, even if you are an SEO beginner. If you are already well-versed with the SEO process, then learning these mistakes won’t hurt your chances either, but rather, help improve them.
Wrong or irrelevant keywords
A lot of people try to use popular or common keywords in order to get people to their sites, regardless if the keywords that they use have any relevance to their site or not. You may be able to generate traffic using this type of method, but since you are not offering relevant content based on your keyword, people visiting your site will just end up leaving simply because you are not offering any content that they are looking for. You are actually getting traffic of market that isn’t even interested in your site or its content, so you just end up with nothing.
Avoid doing this method, instead try to focus on using genuine relevant keywords, so you can direct traffic of possible clients to your site, and not just useless web traffic.
Overuse of keywords
Another mistake that people do when they try to optimize their site is by over-using keywords, or using them repeatedly in the title, tags and body. They believe that by overloading their site’s content with their chosen keywords, they will be able to trick search engines, and improve their site’s page ranking in the process.
Unfortunately, this is not necessarily the case. Search engines will be able to detect if you are committing the over-use of keywords, or ?spamming?, and if so, your site will pay the ultimate price by getting itself banned from the search engine’s index.
Good or relevant content missing
You may believe that even if you do not offer any good or relevant content in your site that your site itself is still good enough to get and keep the traffic that you are able to produce, but this, however, is not the case, as good and relevant content is what will get people, or your possible clients, to stay to your site.
People are driven to go to your site with the keywords that you have chosen, but it is your site’s content that they will be looking for, so make sure that whatever keywords you have chosen to use, those keywords will direct them to relevant web content in your site. Do take the time to write good and relevant content in order to ensure that your site would continue to do well against others offering the same thing. Remember that the only way that you can get your site to stand out against other sites would be your site’s content.
If you don’t have accurate details regarding Search Engine Optimization, then you might make a bad choice on the subject. Don’t let that happen: keep reading.
Wrong HTML codes = HTML errors
If your site commits a lot of HTML errors when people try to access it, even if it has very good and relevant content, chances are people will visit your site a whole lot less. So before you submit your site to search engine directories, you need to check and double-check your HTML codes to avoid any problems with your site, such as slow loading time, browser conflicts, and low page ranking.
Too much graphics
Bear in mind that search engines detect texts when indexing, analyzing and checking sites, and are not programmed to look for graphics, so creating a graphics-rich site will not give it an edge over other sites in terms of SEO, but can actually have the opposite effect. Since search engines are not programmed to look for graphics, they may bypass your site, giving it a lower page ranking.
Learn to avoid these SEO mistakes, and you should be able to do a whole lot better than others.
The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you’ll be glad you took the time to learn more about Search Engine Optimization.

Search engine optimization (SEO) is one of the best online strategies and skill that you can learn and employ to get better page ranking in search engines for your site. However, there are some things that you just need help with, such as the type of content you should write about in your page in order to get good, relevant content for users.
Creating content relevant to your site for SEO requires a different set of skills, and demands you to perform a few tasks other than just simply writing and posting articles. Here are a couple of things that you should learn if you intend to become an SEO content writer.
Learn the SEO process
The first thing that you should learn if you want to become a SEO content writer is how the entire SEO process works in order to be able to create articles that have relevant content to what users are looking for, as well as create articles that will help funnel and direct market to the site or page that you are working on.
Search engines focuses on text and not images, so the written content of your page will receive the most amount of checking and analysis from search engine crawlers, and if deemed passable, will then get indexed in their database. This is why you need to make sure that your content is relevant and good in order to get a good chance of getting better results with search engines.
Use keywords properly
SEO content writers should learn how to use keywords and phrases in getting their content across to the different users searching for those that are relevant to their search. Keywords play a vital role in any SEO content since this will help determine whether your created article for that particular keyword or phrase has any relevance to what users are searching for.
Those of you not familiar with the latest on Search Engine Optimization now have at least a basic understanding. But there’s more to come.
You need to be able to take into account the keywords or phrases that users will be using in search engines to find the relevant content that they are looking for so that you can incorporate it into the articles that you will be creating and posting on your site or page. You need to know where to place these keywords or phrases in the article, such as in the title tags and body of the articles, in order to help search engines find your content so it can get indexed in their database.
Aside from this, as a SEO content writer, you should try to avoid overusing keywords wherein you try to flood your articles with the keyword or phrase associated with it. This can only lead search engines to believe that the content that you are creating as spam.
Write quality content
The quality of your articles will also play a major and important role on how your site or page will do in the entire SEO process. Keep in mind that if you cannot offer users relevant content to their searches, they will most likely find it somewhere else, and all of your work in getting them to your site would have been in vain.
Being a SEO content writer limits you to certain rules when writing your articles. In order to avoid certain mistakes and errors, you need to follow certain guidelines that will help improve your site’s page ranking in search engines. One example of this is the use of keywords in your articles. The excessive use of such will result in getting your content tagged as spam.
You also need to not only write quality and relevant content for users, but you must also offer fresh and new content from time to time in order to be able to offer more content for your users. This can actually also help get your site recommended by other sites, thereby improving your chances of getting more traffic directed to your site.
Also, your articles should be original and engrossing for the user at the same time. Writing an article that users have read on some other site will not get you good points from them.
Research is key
In order for you to be able to write technically about a particular topic in a way that it can actually generate good SEO results, you need to learn how to do research on them. This will help you create content that is relevant and informative for users.

What is Search Engine Optimization?
This interesting article addresses some of the key issues regarding Search Engine Optimization. A careful reading of this material could make a big difference in how you think about Search Engine Optimization.
A lot of businesses, both online and in real time are relying on the internet to hopefully acquire more buyers that will lead to more sales and income. The process of search engine optimization or SEO is fairly easy, provided that you understand the different approaches and invest in the right resources that will get you good targeted traffic. You have to understand the different factors that will make your web site more visible to the world.
Describing SEO
SEO or search engine optimization is the process of developing and boosting the quality and volume of traffic to a given website via search engines. Search engines will search for the most relevant web sites as visitors type in the given keywords through organic or algorithmic methods. In most cases, the earlier a web site presents itself in the search results list, the higher number of visitors it will get from the search engine. Some of the most popular search engines include Yahoo and Google. SEO can target various types of search like images, local searches and vertical search engines that are industry-specific. Web presence is provided to the web site as you gain more relevance.
As an Internet Marketing Strategy
SEO is very much related to internet marketing. It considers how search engines function and what are the usual things that visitors on the internet look for. You can optimize the web site by changing or editing the content, associated coding and HTML to boost its relevance to given keywords as well as eliminate barriers to the indexing functions of search engines.
Most of this information comes straight from the Search Engine Optimization pros. Careful reading to the end virtually guarantees that you’ll know what they know.
SEO can also mean search engine optimizers. The term was coined by a group of consultants who function by optimizing projects for different clients. Some SEO services are performed in-house by various types of employees. The techniques of SEO can be included into the development and design of the web site, since SEO effectiveness needs to change according to the HTML code of a given site. Being search-engine friendly usually means having the right web site design, content management systems, navigation tools, shopping carts, images and videos and menus to help optimize the site for increased search engine exposure.
More Strategies
There are different strategies that can be used to optimize visibility in search engines. According to eye tracking studies, searchers will scan search results pages from the top to bottom and left to right, to find relevant results. Positioning at the top or near the top of the rankings leads to increased number of searchers who will most likely visit your web site. Having more search engine referrals do not usually guarantee added sales.
SEO is not truly the right strategy for every given web site, since other internet marketing strategies can be more effective, depending on the objectives of the site operator. The success of the internet marketing campaign will ultimately drive organic traffic to your web site, but you also have to incorporate other approaches like paid advertising and affiliates. Using these resources will help increase the people who will most likely be interested in your given products and services.
Your Investment
SEO help you generate your ROI or return on investment. Search engines are not paid by web site owners if they get organic search traffic. The algorithms change, so you cannot be sure if you can stay at the top of the rankings. Updating your web site content and boosting the elements that make a good web site will help you get your money back quickly.
So now you know a little bit about Search Engine Optimization. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Yahoo! Search Engine Optimization
Jerry Yang and David Filo were graduate students at Stanford University in January of 1994 when they created a website that they called “Jerry’s Guide to the World Wide Web,” a directory that organized other web sites into a hierarchy. Four months later Yang and Filo renamed the search engine Yahoo! after a word used by Jonathan Swift in Gulliver’s Travels. Swift’s definition of Yahoo! was “rude, unsophisticated, uncouth.”
At the end of 1994, approximately twelve months after its creation, Yang and Filo had over one million hits on their fledgling search engine. Understanding that they had designed something that could enjoy potential business success Filo and Yang incorporated Yahoo! early in March of 1995, fourteen months after its inception. Because the name Yahoo was already the brand name of other enterprises, human propelled watercraft, barbecue sauce, and knives, Yang and Filo were forced to add the exclamation point in order to trademark the name. Yahoo! had it first public offering on April 12, 1996. Two point six million shares of Yahoo! were sold at thirteen dollars a piece, earning a total of thirty-three point eight million dollars.
By the late 1990’s Yahoo! and several other internet communications company’s diversified into web portals.
In the late 1990’s Yahoo! also started buying out other companies such as eGroups and GeoCities. Because Yahoo! had a reputation for changing terms of service when purchasing companies most of the buy outs were wrought with controversy.
Although it stocks fell to an all time lo, Yahoo! was able to survive the dot.com bubble burst. In order to help rebuild itself, Yahoo! started forming partnerships with telecommunication companies and internet providers, these alliances led to the creation of content rich broadband services that actively competed with AOL.
So far, we’ve uncovered some interesting facts about Search Engine Optimization. You may decide that the following information is even more interesting.
With their eye on the future, the powers in charge at Yahoo! are working on creating Yahoo!Next, a concept similar to Google Labs that contains forums that provide places for Yahoo! users to leave feedback that will hopefully assist in the development of future Yahoo! enterprises and technologies.
Like most successful companies Yahoo! is constantly working to improve and expand. Yahoo! currently provides its customers with a smorgasbord of internet services that cater o most online activities. These services include Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Groups, Yahoo! Maps and Driving Directions, and Yahoo! Messenger. While Google holds the top spot in search engines Yahoo! is standing strong in second place. Yahoo! competes against Yahoo! by offering its customers vertical search services such as, Yahoo! Image, Yahoo! Local, Yahoo! Shopping Search, Yahoo! Video, and Yahoo! News. Yahoo! is proud to boast the largest, most successful e-mail service in the world.
User generated content products such as Yahoo! Personals, Yahoo! Photos, Yahoo! 360, and Flicker offer Yahoo!’s customer’s social networking services.
Yahoo! Shopping, Yahoo! Merchant Solutions, Yahoo! Store, Yahoo! Web Hosting, Yahoo! Domains, and Yahoo! Business Email are services Yahoo! provides to small business owners that allows them to develop their own online business using Yahoo!’s tools.
In March of 2004 Yahoo! launched a paid inclusion program that guaranteed commercial websites listings on Yahoo! search engines for a fee. While the paid inclusions were lucrative for Yahoo!, they where unpopular with the online marketing world. Business owners didn’t want to pay the internet mogul for search engine optimization. Paid inclusion simply guaranteed that the businesses websites would be ranked; it didn’t guarantee that it would be ranked in the first two pages.
Now you can be a confident expert on Search Engine Optimization. OK, maybe not an expert. But you should have something to bring to the table next time you join a discussion on Search Engine Optimization.

Commitment to the Process
SEO needs to be consistent and requires a lot of work in your part. Search engine algorithms adjust regularly, so it is important to stay updated with the latest trends and approaches, since some of your methods may no longer work after a few months. You have to be prepared for the long term and view how your business will continue to grow through SEO. It takes a lot of discipline and patience to see results. At first, your methods may not seem to be working, but as you continue to enhance the steps and process, you can do good business and expand your client base.
Getting Information
You have to know how to ask the right questions from the right people. Ask for the specific details of your business, and learn more about the industry by talking to experts and other successful businessmen. Find out how SEO can be used to the fullest and how you can better get in touch with your target customers. One of the most effective methods is to ensure that your web site is easy to navigate. You need to always have good and fresh content. Update your blog and articles regularly.
If your Search Engine Optimization facts are out-of-date, how will that affect your actions and decisions? Make certain you don’t let important Search Engine Optimization information slip by you.
Join online forums and discussion boards and talk to your target customers. You can place links in your signature and copy the same articles you have from your web site to boost credibility and reputation. Read other articles and visit other successful web sites. Find out which keywords will most likely be used by your target customers and use these wisely throughout your articles. You may hire ghost writers to help you make relevant and useful articles in a shorter span of time.
Stay Visible
Include a site map page. Spiders cannot index your pages if these cannot be crawled. You can use a site map and the right HTML and other codes that will keep you visible to spiders. The spider will easily understand the hierarchy of your site. Make sure you have an easy-to-crawl navigation menu. You may discuss the details with a webmaster to help you improve visibility. If you have a big web site, create many site map pages. Each one should have less than 100 links. All your SEO moves should have an objective. Make use of web analytics software and other online experts to track the right methods and get rid of irrelevant and time-consuming efforts.
The URLs and file names should be friendly to SEOs. Use 2 to 3 hyphens at most to keep your file from appearing like a spam. Use hypens, not underscores, in your URLs and filenames. Hyphens are considered as “space”, unlike underscores.
Relevance Matters
Always ensure that you have a relevant title and meta description on each web page. The page title is the most vital factor of on-page SEO. It is unlikely to rank very high for a primary term without the word being included in the page title. Ignore the keywords meta completely if you find that these are not relevant and only confuses visitors. Always write for visitors and users. The content of your site and articles should always be related to your industry and company.
So now you know a little bit about Search Engine Optimization. Even if you don’t know everything, you’ve done something worthwhile: you’ve expanded your knowledge.

Three Basic Steps to Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization is the art and science of making web pages appear attractive to the search engines. The better optimized a website is, the higher the ranking it will receive from a search engines web crawlers, the higher its ranking the more traffic your website will have, the more traffic your website has the more profit your website will generate. The key is good internet search engine optimization.
Why is having a receiving a high ranking so important to the future success of your online business? Studies have shown that consumers seldom look at websites that don’t rank a spot on of the first two pages the search engines displays. Websites that receive a ranking that places them on the third page (or any other pages after that) see a significantly lower amount of traffic at their websites then one that is ranked on the second page. There is even a staggering difference between the first and second page. In the world of e-commerce ranking and strong search engine optimization is everything.
At first search engine optimization may feel like trying to rappel down the Grand Canyon, a huge scary world full of big words like web crawlers, PageRank, Meta tags, and algorithms. You’ve never heard of any of these things. A quick internet search of the world algorithm doesn’t help; all you got was a printout of strange symbols and numbers arranged in complex algebraic equations.
Sit back, take a deep breath, and try to relax. Search engine optimization is a lot simpler then you might think. First things first.
Algorithms really are every bit as complex as they look. Simply defined they are a finite set of carefully defined instructions. Most, if not all, computer programs are designed with strict algorithms.
If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Search Engine Optimization story from informed sources.
PageRank is simply the program Google designed to search, index, and rank it registered webpage’s. PageRank operates on a link analysis algorithm. PageRank is credited for Google incredible success.
Web crawlers are tools search engines use to browse the World Wide Web in a methodical, automated manner. When web crawlers are browsing websites they are looking for algorithms.
Meta tags are special HTML tags that provide information to about a web page. Meta tags are written directly into the title tag and are only visible to the search engine.
The reality of search engine optimization is that you can start to optimize your website without any knowledge at all of the technical stuff involved in search engine optimization. Simply stated the very first step in designing a website that is going to be well ranked by the search engines is to create a content rich site. What this means is that you must cram as much information about your product into your website as you possibly can.
The third step to search engine optimization is to fill your site with keywords that will attract the web crawler’s attention. The final step in a wonderfully optimized website is to submit it to the search engine that will compliment it.
The day will come when you can use something you read about here to have a beneficial impact. Then you’ll be glad you took the time to learn more about Search Engine Optimization.

Google and PageRank-Search Engine Optimization’s Dream Team
On September 7 1998, two Stanford University students, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, co-founded Google, a company they started as part of a research project in January 1996. On August 19, 2004 Google had its first public offering, the one point six-seven billion dollars it raised gave it a net worth of twenty-tree billion dollars. As of December 31, 2006 the Mountain View, California based internet search and online advertising company Google Inc. had over ten thousand full time employees.
